Problems with New New Who (Or why I don't like Steven Moffat's Doctor Who)

I’ve been a Doctor Who fan since 2005 (but before the first series started). You could technically say that Christopher Eccleston was my first doctor but David Tennant was the first Doctor that I was old enough to appreciate and remember well. These two doctors will always have a place in my heart because they were my first two (and Tennant is my favourite out of all of them, which I know is cliche but it’s a testament to his character and acting and Tom Baker is second so… but that’s also cliche… erm… Christopher Eccleston is third… or second… I can’t quite decide). These two doctors are doctors that I can imagine wanting to go on adventures with. I mean if I ever saw their TARDISes then I’d run to them but for some reason Matt Smith doesn’t seem to have that appeal.
I don’t think I blame Matt himself as he’s a brilliant actor but what I love about 9 and 10 is that they can be really fun and great to be with but when shit goes down you can rely on them to shout and be all angry and get the job done. 11 doesn’t really have that side, he’s all “WOO BOW TIES ARE COOL, EVERYTHING’S COOL, LET’S ALL GO AND WEAR A FEZ” more or less all the time and when he’s angry it’s not… the same. And he has too many catchphrases.
I also hate how new new who has loads of catchphrases, we don’t need that many catchphrases. New new who also has become a bit more child orientated, letting schools write episodes (which I hope to dear god aren’t considered canon) and having all these catchphrases and light hearted stuff. I want to go back to the time when you saw Daleks or Cybermen and thought “Shit! Everyone’s going to die. Some morbid crap’s gonna go down right here.” Not that the Doctor’s gonna waltz in, do some silly stuff and then fly off. I also hate the use of story arcs. What was great about New Who and Old Who was that you could watch a story and it’d be a stand alone story that you could enjoy by itself. Nowadays there’s always a reference to the story arc in the story which just ruins it’s standaloneness. For example, one of my favourite 11th Doctor stories is Victory Of The Daleks but at the end you see the crack in time when the TARDIS de-materialises, which just annoys me to no end.
Anyway, I do have Asperger’s Syndrome so this may just be me being over-observant, but I really wish Moffat would get his act together. Oh, and before I go, I hate the fact that Moffat has to overuse the weeping angels, I hate those and he uses them in every god damn series. ENOUGH!

OJ's Show: From Vision to Screen

Well look at me with my very vain title. Anyway I do a show on YouTube under the channel username "ojtheawesome" called OJ's Show and this blog post is all about how I make the show, I know, super interesting right!

Ideas
The show wouldn't be anything without ideas, and after that statement of the obvious I'll show you how I get ideas of what to put into OJ's Show. It's quite simple really, I spend an unhealthy amount of time on the internet for various reasons so when I come across something stupendously awesome I jot it down onto a piece of paper. I refer to said piece of paper in the show so if you see any edits where I'm looking down that's why. I know you're itching to see what this piece of paper looks like, so I've included a picture for you:

Filming
I film the show on Friday night. That's right, when everyone else is out partying the night away, I'm talking about dubstep violinists to a camera. The camera I use is a flip video camera that my dad got me. It's a great camera but in my eco-friendly light lit room it doesn't bode so well, hence the graininess but I try to shoot in the day whenever possible. Well I know all of you equally excited to view this magnificent beast of a camera so here it is (ignore the bear hat, I know it's incredibly trendy and everything but, y'know, the camera is on the right):

So the filming generally consists of 20 minutes of me getting everything wrong, 5 minutes of me staring at my sheet and 10 minutes of actual YouTube worthy footage. Seriously, I am actually quite terrible at talking to a camera at 11 o'clock at night but hey, all in the name of making someone happier (wow that was so corny).

Editing
The editing literally takes about an hour to do. Because I mess things up so often I have to re-do the portion of the show that I messed up, but the problem is that I restart too quickly, thus giving me the wonderful job of spending ten minutes going through the scene frame by frame so that I can cut it at the exact time that I start speaking, on top of this I also add James Cameron-like effects such as the odd 2D line of text appearing from nowhere, I also add the intro video to the show which I got off of a site where you just need to type the text in to make the video. I made the theme tune myself though, so state of the art is said theme tune that it has no need for real life instruments... at all. This is all done in Windows Live Movie Maker of course, so you can tell that I have a Hollywood budget:

Uploading
After all the editing is out of the way, I save the video in high definition to my desktop and then upload it to YouTube using Freemake Video Converter. The process takes 4 hours for a 10 minute video so I normally leave it overnight and set the video to private.

Description, Tagging and Release
On Saturday morning I go and edit the video's description, putting links to all of the things I've talked about in the show and links to a few of my other websites, this takes about 20 minutes to half an hour to do. After that's done I type down a few tags that are applicable to the video, add any annotations if I need to, set the video as public and share it on my other websites.

Le Conclusion
And there you have it, that's the amount of effort that goes into making an OJ's Show. Hope you enjoyed reading this, I tried to add some humour in there. If that didn't really work, here's a giraffe:

Mixcloud

So recently I've come across this website called Mixcloud. It's basically where you make your own radio show and then the songs you play have links to places where you can buy them when they're being played, so it's really awesome AND legal!

My first radio show is 40 minutes or so devoted to my favourite band Queen, here it is:

Joseph Kony and the Future of the World

Well, as most of you are well aware, the name Joseph Kony has gone viral and is seen and heard all over the internet. And for good cause as well, Kony is supposedly the most wanted international criminal at the present because of his connections to the LRA, a group in which young children are forced to carry guns and killed others after being kidnapped, sometimes having to mutilate other people's faces.

However, because this has rightly become an internet phenomenon, people have been sharing the message blindly without knowing who the bloke is, not only that but people have also been posting about Kony on videos about other equally evil problems (i.e Syria). These things infuriate me to no end, so does the fact that this will probably dampen down in a few days, or maybe a few weeks.

Now the Kony 2012 campaign may have flaws itself, expressed by Justice In Conflict and Visible Children but I still think it's important to spread awareness about Joseph Kony, maybe not necessarily through these organisations but just spreading the word about the man himself.

BUT IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT KONY
There are many other evils in this world and we can't just focus on one thing to try and make the world better, we must try and focus on all of them and that means giving a damn about Kony and Syria and World Hunger etc. and spreading awareness about these things as well.

Musical Type Things

So recently I've gotten into rock music/heavy metal. I don't really know why, I think things have been a bit shite recently so it's a sort of "fuck da police" and rock out sort of thing I guess. Now I'm not the one for screamo bands because I can hardly make out a word they're screaming and it's just unpleasant to hear for me so I can bare a tuneful song with a bit of screaming but not a full blown screaming song. Because if this I've found myself listening to a lot of Slash, Guns N' Roses, Black Stone Cherry, Avenged Sevenfold, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne and Kiss recently. Kiss is now one of my new favourite bands, it's the way they present themselves as a solid, awesome heavy metal band but sing awesome songs that vary from verging on pop to hard rock that does it for me. They have such variety and their stage presence is awe inspiring. They'll never beat my favourite band Queen but they can come a close second. I think one of the reasons why I like them is that Kiss and Queen are quite similar when you come to think about it, with their stage presence and their different presentation, especially so in Queen's early years. Anyway because I've started listening to this type of music I've decided to form a band. So that's cool, watch this space for any awesome things to come!

Anyway, see you guys later and... rock on! \m/ ;)

Lying: A Poem about War

Lying
Oliver Jenkins

Here we are,
Lying on a ground of rubble,
People lying from near and far,
Who've given up on life's struggle,
Some people wanted land,
Some people wanted ideals,
Some people gave a helping hand,
Some handed out last meals,
What would this achieve,
In a future society of ours,
If weapons we create concede,
Over green fields and flowers,
The body count is high,
And the achievement is low,
If we don't stop the end is nigh,
And the human race will go

"If we don't end war, war will end us." - H. G. Wells

How Sherlock Holmes (BBC) faked his death: A list of what we know

Basically, I'll just list a load of things that someone who's probably more clever than me can piece together into some sort of awesome conclusion:

  • We are never told what Molly did to help Sherlock.
  • Mycroft works for the government.
  • The drug from the Hounds of Baskerville could have been used.
  • The recollection could have been from John's POV, in which case it's easy to be not what it seems because he was knocked over by a bike.
  • Homeless network could've done stuff.
  • "I owe you" could still mean something. Maybe in the form of "I.O.U". Made more probable as "H.O.U.N.D" meant something in the Hounds of Baskerville.
  • John was told to not move.
  • John was told to keep his eyes fixed on Sherlock.
  • The assassins had their eyes on Sherlock and Watson at all times.
  • The girl screamed when she saw Sherlock, could have been a lookalike that did something to her (probably not).
  • Sherlock said the call was his "note".
  • "When I've eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how mad it might seem, must be the truth." - Sherlock Holmes"
